Departmental Aims:
To provide intellectual stimulation, enjoyment and a sense of achievement and to encourage social interaction through an emphasis on communication. To offer insights into the culture and civilisation of the countries where the language is spoken.
Resources
The Languages Department occupies three specialist rooms. All rooms are equipped with projectors. The Languages Office also houses banks of teaching resources and the Department also has the services of a French Assistant.
Curriculum
KS3
Pupils in years 7, 8 and 9 are taught in mixed ability groups and are currently using Expo 1, 2 and 3 as the main Course book. The KS3 National Strategy-Framework for Teaching Modern Foreign Languages is closely adhered to.
KS4
In year 10 students can opt to study GCSE French. The syllabus followed is provided by AQA and all four attainment skills are tested. Listening (20%), Reading (20%), Speaking (30%), Writing (30%).
KS5
In years 12 and 13 students are offered the AQA “A” Level French Syllabus. The following units will be assessed: AS Level- Unit 1 (written paper) and Unit 2 (speaking test) and A Level- Unit 3 (Listening, Reading and Writing) and Unit 4 (Speaking Test)
