Departmental Aims

The Art department aims to provide students with the opportunity to develop their skills through a range of media. In addition, the department is proactive in seeking to develop students’ appreciation of the richness of a multi-cultural heritage.

Resources

The department is located within a specialist suite of art rooms and seeks to take advantage of the range of new ICT developments within the school.

Curriculum

KS3

In Year 7, pupils have 2 terms of Art and 1 term of Art in Years 8 and 9. Pupils are taught in mixed ability groups and the programme's of study allow for differentiation by outcome.

KS4

In Years 10 and 11 the students are offered the Edexcel unendorsed Art and Design syllabus which enables them to explore a range of two or three dimensional approaches to their studies. The course is 60% coursework and 40% exam.
There are three compulsory components for GCSE Art and Design: Two units of coursework, Work journals (a combination of sketchbook and time-based record which must contain evidence of the development of the students’ ideas, including reference to the work of other artists), and a ten hour examination (externally set).

KS5

In Years 12 and 13 students are offered the Edexcel unendorsed Art and Design syllabus. There are 2 units for AS level Art.

  • Unit 1 – Thematic and expressive work
  • Unit 2 – Externally set assignment
  • And 2 units for A2 Art:
  • Unit 3 – Personal study and practical work
  • Unit 4 – Externally set assignment
