Welcome from Mr Maguire
The Head Teacher
I would like to welcome you to the school's website. Please browse through this site using navigation bar above to find out more about Canon Palmer Catholic School. The school was formed in 1961 and it takes its name from a much loved and respected Priest, Canon Patrick Palmer, who led the foundation of the Catholic community in and around Ilford.
Four decades later, the school is a well-established co-educational comprehensive of 1,260 pupils. The school has recently been designated as a specialist Science, Maths and ICT College by the department for Education and Skills. Canon Palmer is, first and foremost, a Catholic school serving the local Catholic community.
Curriculum
In the lower school we provide a broad and balanced curriculum for all students within the context of the National Curriculum. As a Catholic School, Religious Education has a special place within the curriculum. In the upper school (Years 10+11) all pupils are expected to take GCSE or vocational qualifications. They can take between 7 and 12 subjects. We offer an extensive range of A level, Applied A Level, and vocational courses in the sixth form.
